hacktogether is a browser extension that lets you leave one annotation per article that shows up on Hacker News. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
What We Collect
- — Account information — Your name, email address, and profile photo, received from Google when you sign in with OAuth.
- — Annotations — The text selections and comments you submit on articles.

What We Do Not Collect
- —We do not track your browsing history.
- —We do not read page content unless you explicitly select text to annotate.
- —We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
- —We do not use advertising or analytics trackers.
How We Use Your Data
- —To authenticate you and display your profile in the extension popup.
- —To store and display annotations you create.
- —To calculate and display your annotation streak.
Data Storage
Your session token is stored locally on your device and never sent to third parties. Annotations and account information are stored on our servers at hacktogether.news and are not shared.
Extension Permissions
- —storage — to save your session token locally on your device.
- —tabs — to open the sign-in page in a new tab.
- —scripting — to inject the annotation sidebar on web pages you visit.
- —host permissions (<all_urls>) — to allow the annotation sidebar to appear on any page. We do not read or transmit page content.
Deleting Your Data
You can sign out at any time from the extension popup, which removes your local session token. To delete your account and all associated annotations, email us at hello@hacktogether.news and we'll remove your data within 30 days.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
